so i’m a rule breaker. i got myself kicked out of the nyc half marathon. put myself in the lottery back in feb. found out i got into the race a couple of weeks ago. not really feeling it, so i posted my entry on craigslist. craigslist rocks btw. i got tons of emails. the race costs $75 (which is a whole other topic, $75 for a freaking half marathon). i posted it for $65. a bidding war began. but this is where i gets myself into some trouble. a dude wants to buy my number. i don’t think that a dude can run for a lady. so being the honest citizen that i am, i emailed NYRR (new york road runners) and asked if that was possible. i didn’t even say i was selling the ticket, just giving it away b/c i couldn’t make their wonderful race. here is the response that i got from their general counsel. YES, their freaking general counsel…
Ms. Cortese. I am General Counsel of New York Road Runners (NYRR) and, as such, your email was forwarded to me for response. Please be advised that it is a violation of the posted NYRR rules for entry into the NYC Half Marathon for any selected entrant to sell or transfer, or attempt to sell or transfer, his/her assigned number or chip to another person. Therefore, while we are sorry that you will not be able to make it to NYC for the race, I am afraid that we cannot allow a third party to participate in the event using your number/chip. Under the circumstances, your entry in the Half (No. 234115) will be cancelled and no one will be issued your number/chip at registration for the event.
REALLY?? really. i would have run the damn race. so not fair. everyone does it. everyone sells their numbers. i just ran a race last weekend under someone else’s number. i went onto the webiste to read their stupid rules. i found this. who reads the fine print anyway?? rats. i’m a total rule breaker and out $75.
NYRR reserves the right to reject any entry and to disqualify and bar any individual from any NYRR event. This rejection/disqualification may be based on, but is not limited to: violation of the aforementioned rules; unsportsmanlike conduct; non-payment of race fees; competing with an unofficial number; competing with an official number or chip assigned to another person; transferring or attempting to transfer an official number or chip to, or to obtain such number or chip from, another person; being paced during the race by a person not entered in the race; accepting assistance from non-race participants; crossing the finish line without having completed the entire course; and providing false information on the race entry form. Individuals disqualified from a race will be removed from the race results and may be barred from future NYRR events. NYRR reserves the right to change the details of the race.
