Sunday 5:30 am March 26, 2007

i’m going to start this off by saying my neighbor is a complete idiot.  he is a “deep” sleeper.  he sleeps through his alarm every single day.  it goes off for hours.  unfortunately, for me, i don’t sleep through it.

sunday 5:30 am.  i wake up to hear what i think is his alarm clock.  5:30 fu*cking am.  it is much louder than his alarm clock.  in fact, it is his unit’s fire alarm.  i get up and check it out.  i see light through his peep hole.  i can smell something burning.  i bang on his door.  no answer.  not really sure if i should call 911?  instead i wake up our on site people who have a master key.  it is now sunday 6:00 am.

the idiot’s door is opened and i’ve never seen so much smoke.  everywhere.  he is passed out on his bed.  i guess he wanted a little snack when he got home. the problem was that he passed out before it was ready and left it cooking on the stove.  the pan and whatever was in it was burned to a char and huge flames were growing by the minute.  we could not get the idiot to waken….so 911 was called.

four very handsome firemen, two paramedics, a stretcher, and i think a couple of policemen promptly arrived.  it took them about 5 mins to revive the idiot.  how scary would it be to wake up to 10 people standing over your bed and smoke everywhere?  he didn’t seem fazed.  total idiot.

he is still claiming that he is a “deep” sleeper.  whatever.  he could have burned down the entire building.  and if not, it would have been just his and my units.  i guess a letter is going to be sent to him and possible fines.  i wonder if he will ever thank me for saving his life…..probably not!

i’m out.  i’m too old to be living in a glorified dorm.  maybe i’m grown up enough for a house.  then i could get my zooties!!!  zooties!!

tater tot hot dish.  having a going away lunch at my place for a co-worker today.  i make tthd in the am, set delay, bake and off to work i go.

my co-worker who is moving to nyc,  sent me the recipe for TTHD about 8 months ago with the subject line, “you should make this”.   that started my quest for making the perfect TTHD.  i’ve experimented with ingredients, taken away veggies, added corn, added velveta cheese slices, used just cream of mushroom soup…i’ve used turkey, hamburger, and venison.  at the end of the day, tthd is just a yummy comfort food that everyone must try (even my southern friends)!  below is the recipe if you dare to try it out!  you will not be disappointed!

TATER TOT HOTDISH

1 lb. or more hamburger (or turkey or venison)

1 sm. onion, chopped

1 c. cut celery

1 lb. frozen tater tots

1 lb. frozen peas and corn or mixed vegetables

processed cheese slices

1 can mushroom soup

1 can cream of chicken soup

1 soup can milk

1 package of shredded cheese

Brown choice of meat and season lightly; add chopped onion and stir with meat until done. Add cut celery. Put meat mixture into baking casserole, layer veggies, layer cheese slices, and then layer tater tots. Mix soups and milk; pour over all. Sprinkle the top with shredded cheese.  Bake 1 hour at 350 degrees.

300 March 12, 2007

300_cover.jpg

holy shat, i saw 300 tonight. a must see!!  it is based on an epic graphic novel which is kind of like a thick comic book (don’t worry, i had no idea what it was either) but based on a true historical tale of the battle of thermopylae.

gerald butler plays king leonidas who is better than hot!  in fact, ladies, the entire movie is filled with hotter than hot men in leather banana hammocks and flowing red capes.

okay, sorry, focus…the story is about king leonidas and 300 spartans who fought to their deaths against xerxes and his massive persian army.  king leonidas and his men are up against all odds, but fight for their families, their honor, and to living and dying as a spartan.  interesting to see that even back in the day, political b.s. interfered with raging war.

the entire movie was filmed in a sepia color that really enhanced the muscles and sweat of these young warriors.  very gory that had me closing my eyes and all tense.  tears were shed as were shouts of glory (out loud shouts in a movie theatre, not the norm for olivia).  this movie was just about up there with braveheart!

Is this your gym? March 7, 2007

The first clothing-free workout session at a Dutch gym went ahead as planned in Heteren, eastern Netherlands, Sunday March 4, 2007, and participants and observers said it met expectations. Around a dozen middle-aged and elderly men braved the glare of nearly twice that number of journalists, including reporters, photographers and at least five television teams, to fulfill their dream of exercising naked. ‘There are things that you like to do, and for a nudist, it just feels better to do them with your clothes off,’ said Ron van der Putten, left, who drove for more than an hour to take part in the first session, dubbed ‘Nudifit’. ‘You feel more free.’
